ELYLE BORCHERDS
In my artistic practice I am drawn to exploration of space, dimension and texture, while recently these interests have lead me to investigate implication of perception, time and navigation of the different dimensions of perception.
My work is also greatly inspired by the materiality and physical objecthood of the materials I use, and then also how the objecthood and materiality is navigated in the subjective experience. My own interaction and temperament when working with different mediums shows in my use of violent and visceral mark making contrasted by stark, sometimes clinical, moments. This may be a tell tale sign of the influence of the time I spent training to become a jeweller, which taught me the value of craftsmanship when creating work. The constraints of jewellery techniques and the inclination to physically involve myself with the making process also sparked a strong counter reaction to formal design, which inspired my use of crude and forceful mark making
My interest in experience and perception has also lead my practice to become more reflective upon itself. This I believe envigoured my urge to question perception, belief and experience within my work.
